Somewhere in Scotland

The Hermitage

Our little story...

The morning of November 28 was completely white. This was our first snow in Scotland. We went for a walk at The Hermitage, a forest site. We were not alone on the walk, and for good reason the sun and the little powder brought people out. It is here that there are some of the largest trees on British soil, the Douglas firs. And in the undergrowth there is an unnatural hermit's cave which was built by the third Earl of Breadalbane around 1760, but which never had an inhabitant. In 1869, guide Donald Anderson was dressed in animal skins and had a long lichen beard.
