Somewhere in Scotland

Dunscaith Castle

Our little story...

After a few rather rainy and foggy days on the Isle of Skye, we had to wait until December 19 and the departure of Perrine's parents to have beautiful sunshine in the middle of a perfectly blue sky. Saying “in the middle of the sky” is a bit of an exaggeration. The sun's rays were rather low, casting long shadows. Dunscaith Castle is more than in ruins. The main part of the castle once seemed to stand on a rocky part, separated from the main land, by a small chasm and steep cliffs. A stone bridge, equally in ruins and not very secure, provides access to this part. According to legend, this castle has a close link with Irish mythology. It would have sheltered Scáthach the Shadow, a Scottish warrior and martial arts teacher.
